Got this center speaker to replace my Sony Bravia HT-SS2000 Home Theater System the one that came with the home theater system with a little weak all around so I got this bad boy. Makes everything sound 10 times better the only thing it a big center speaker but the sound is big too.
I've used it on multiple systems and room sizes with never a regret. It really does sound like a much higher end center. A great sounding speaker, precise, clear, no distortion and able to handle plenty of power. the big surprise is that it is soooo low cost.
But unless you put this speaker side by side with the high end units you won't hear a difference. My opinion is this; if your receiver is under $500, this is a great CC for you. Sure, you can drop $400 on something else (get what you pay for). great quality mid-line equipment. I have had this center channel for about 2 years now. Simply put, you cannot match the quality of the sound from this unit for the money. If you are dropping a TON of dough on the receiver, the step up the center.Other wise, enjoy what Sony does so well.
That's my only beef. ALso this center is quite large and will need its own shelf or something to support it, it won't hang very easily. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because I hate the fake black wood design and I wish it would have dissapeared years ago. It's also seemless if you match it to the rest of the speakers sony offers in this lineup, they also look the same so it's a plus to aesthetics. I needed to replace a dated sony center, and boy did it need replacing bad, when I hooked this up, the difference was night and day, sure it's not as good as high end audio, but for a basic setup, it surely delivers. This center is great. For the price, it's great. Needless to say, I painted them solid black, much better.
I like that it has a center tweeter and two 5.25 inch woofers on either side. I would most definitely buy it again. The only thing that I would caution you about is that this is no "space saving" speaker. Dialogue comes through clearly. You definitely need a shelf or an older CRT TV to set it on.
You have to understand that the sound quality can't be compared to a $250 speaker. The highs are clear. I think it sounds very balanced. For the money, you can't go wrong with it. This speaker is amazing.
It has a decent amount of bass to it, but not too much to sound muddy. It is fairly large: 6.7 x 15.8 wide x 8.5 inches ; 10.6 pounds.
